Sarita Bonita

Sarah Palin is in the news again. Sometimes I think that I'm the only person that likes her. And make no mistake, I'm a big fan.  I think she gets a lot of bad press for silly things. And I think there is no question that she has made some blunders, the most famous of which is the Charlie Rose interview during her vice-presidential campaign:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

But compare and contrast that interview with a more recent one she had with Bill O'Reilly:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

There is no question that she has come far in the way that she handles the media. She has much more experience with national media outlets. I think she is genuine, smart, and conservative. I don't know if I'd vote for her for President, but I'd sure like to see her run.

Social Networking

Facebook

I like Facebook.

I check my Facebook daily and sometimes hourly. I have over 700 hundred friends on Facebook. Almost everyone I know in real life has a Facebook account. I use Facebook to keep up with old friends, new friends, family, and even social engagements.

I like Facebook.

MySpace

I like MySpace.

That's right. I said it. I like MySpace. This may be a bit of a controversial stance to take for you, dear reader. Nevertheless, I stand by my position. It is true that MySpace has many faults. For a while, some people were convinced that all users of MySpace were either unsupervised thirteen-year-old kiddies or forty-five-year-old pedophile preditors. Thus, its name was associated with unmitigated depravity and represented a harbinger of the end of days.

Still, I say to you, nay. Users of this social networking website run the gamut of our culture, be they young, old, male, female, sinner or saint. Yet, its diversity is not what calls my attention. What I like most about MySpace, and what sets it apart from most any other social networking site, is the ability to customize the look of one's profile page. This is the primary reason, I believe, that MySpace became so popular. Now, don't get me wrong, many of the customizations are the acme of bad design and offend the aesthetic sensibilities of good and decent people globally. But, hear me out, there is something to be said about giving users free liscense to change the very look of their own profiles. Each page becomes an extension of the owner. To view someone's profile on MySpace is like looking at the soul itself. That level of intimacy cannot be attained on Facebook. Not in the same way. Not by any number of added applications or photo albums or "about me" quotations or shared links.

So, despite its sometimes garrish look, I retain my MySpace page. I like the unique connection with my MySpace friends that I have. And that takes nothing away from Facebook at all.

I like MySpace.

New Moon is a terrible movie.
