Literary/Journalistic Chasm

by: Mindy Hess | on: 2008-06-30 12:45:41
I look to the MSN homepage for the occasional ray of light amidst the murky gloom of my professional life.  But lately, I've noticed that the articles are severely lacking in one way or another.  Yes, I realize that this page is not exactly the pinnacle of journalistic capability, but seeing as the page, along with its links, lies within the confines of a corporate firewall, I spend more time there than I probably should.  But after years of looking for reason to be sidetracked, I'm saddened to find that the quality of writing is not merely slipping, but would be well advised to adopt some sort of emergency, crash-landing procedure.  Read more...

An Open Letter To My Parents

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2008-06-16 13:54:25

In a recent conversation with my parents, I realized that they do not understand why I choose to continually support Ron Paul. I wanted to enumerate to them why I support Dr. Paul in a written format because I feel it is a good medium for expressing many ideas without loosing focus. I make this public because I feel that the Rant Fever community might also be interested in why I like Ron Paul so much. I apologize for the length of this post; please do not feel obligated to read it.... I have separated it into sections and may eventually separate it into different posts altogether.

Note to my parents: I hope you don't mind that this letter is so public. If you would rather continue this dialog privately, that is no problem.

...previously, at my miserable job

I talked about this in a previous rant, but the chain of events have culminated into a circumstance that requires open discussion (or at least, for me).  All it really comes down to is this . . .Read more...

I was thinking, as today is a day when many of our freedoms were paid for with blood, of how little people know these days about history and our rights. I came up with a quiz for some of my coworkers.  Most answered it incorrectly.  I'd like to see how civic minded ranters do.  So here it is:

Which of the following is a right guaranteed by the Constitution and its Amendments?
A) The right to liberty.
B) The right to vote.
C) The right to not quarter soldiers.
D) The right to own property.
E) The right to a fair trial.

Presidential Elections

For those of you not familiar with Ann Coulter, (she has not been mentioned in a while) her article today is top notch on the way our Presidential Election system really works.

Man Showers

by: Mindy Hess | on: 2008-06-03 13:39:17

Next weekend I'll be going up to Salt Lake for my older sister's baby shower.  I'm the Aunt, so I'm in charge of organizing.  While talking to my sister about my ideas, she kept saying "ooh, I'm gonna save that one for the other party!"  I asked her why she was having two baby showers, and she told me that the second one wasn't for her, but for her husband.

I was curious, "do you think he really wants to do something that girly??"

"Oh no, it's not a baby shower, it's a baby sprinkler."

"Wait . . . what?"

"See, the shower is just for me, because showers are private.  But everyone likes to run through the sprinklers!"

Traffic control

by: Jennie Martin Howe | on: 2008-06-02 21:04:04

I went to visit my brother in San Antonio last week end.  To get there, my husband and I had to drive through downtown Austin.  We were completely stopped for at least 15 minutes and then never made it past 20mph until we were completely out of Austin.  Now the stopping was due to a 4 car pile up- not much we can do about that, BUT the rest of the traffic was due to stupid people.

Indiana Jones

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2008-06-01 23:59:53

I looked forward with great anticipation to the new Indiana Jones movie. JaneHeiress has a review of the movie. I liked it overall... with two exceptions:

1. The aliens. Really? Aliens? C'mon, now. It is like they didn't even try.

2. Shia LaBeouf. He just doesn't look the part. He can't pull off a tough guy. His new name is now Shiboofy. No more Shiboofy! No more Shiboofy!
