I pontificate but not in the pejorative sense of the word.

At 7pm MST, Gordon B. Hinckley, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints passed away at the age of 97 due to issues associated with his advanced age. Members of the LDS Faith world-wide mourn his loss, and so do I.

Legalizing Drugs

by: Jennie Martin Howe | on: 2008-01-22 11:24:15

Green brought up this topic in a comment and I think it could make it's own rant so here goes:

I am all for the legalization of drugs. Marijuana in particular. Get the pot smokers out of the jails and make more room for the people who really need to be locked up.
If I understand correctly, we pay for these people to get cable TV and 3 meals a day.  Prisons are overcrowded, and I'm sure plenty of them are with people charged with possession.  If we got rid of all that we would have more room for the real criminals and more money available to reinforce that barbed wire fence.

My second thought is that who is the government to say what we eat or breathe?  Now I don't do drugs and those who do aren't the brightest if they value life in general. I understand that drugs can lead to violent crimes.  So lock your doors and get a gun.  Is it worth allowing the government to tell you what you can and cannot put into your body?

Ranters vs. Trooper

by: Jennie Martin Howe | on: 2008-01-22 00:44:04

It's past my bedtime so forgive me if I ramble...

My dad is quite wordy.  Our family played lots of Boggle and Scrabble while I was growing up. He used to make games of reading definitions out of the dictionary and making us guess the words.  As a result, in conversation with the general public , I'll admit, I usually have the upper hand.  I was quite (if not overly) confident of myself when it came to words.  Then I met the ranters.

Gen X vs. Gen Why??

by: Mindy Hess | on: 2008-01-18 15:24:36

I am completely astounded by the complexity behind the male ego.  I find at the heart of this abstract organ is the fundamental drive for self-preservation (on a primarily emotional level), and yet all too often it seems that this drive simply leans toward delusion, particularly in the instance of gettin’ with a particular lady.  That is to say, there are too many men in this world that think that by saying idiotic things that hold no reference or relevance, coming across like a domineering jerk, and living a life bereft of tasteful humor, they'll be able to win over most women.  Granted, there are some girls that will fall for this, but only those lacking in taste and self-esteem.

What is the world coming to?

by: Jennie Martin Howe | on: 2008-01-17 12:17:22

Fox's new "Moment of Truth" show hooks contestants up to a lie detector test.  $500,000 goes to the person who can truthfully answer twenty one questions about themselves on TV, and in front of their family.  In the previews so far, a rather heavy woman is seen asking a man, (who is hooked up to the lie detector) "Do fat people repulse you?"  Another asks a man,"If you could cheat on your spouse and not get caught, would you?"  The wife is seen sobbing.  If any show is going to prove what a poor state this world is in, this is it, for two reasons.

The Proverbial Wool

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2008-01-17 03:54:26

Yesterday, I got tricked into cuddling.  The femme fatal in question was sitting on the couch with me when she turned her sultry eyes in my direction and said, "is it okay if I sit over there," with a wave of a hand toward me. Somehow I missed the cue and assumed she wanted to switch places.  As I began to make the appropriate movements to perform the switch, she gripped me firmly by the arm and, pulling me back down, said, "no, you stay right there."  The next thing I know she is balled up in the crook of an arm, I have a face full of brown hair, and I'm wondering just exactly what happened.

Rant Fever 2.0

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2008-01-14 07:17:08

Rant Fever is finally back online!  It was long overdue, but better late than never. I am excited for this new version of Rant Fever.  I completely recoded the entire content management system (CMS) so Rant Fever has a completely new foundation.  It should prove more flexible and powerful as new additions to the site come out.

Please try out everything and let me know how things work.  I have only done limited tests on Firefox so I expect that there are still several bugs that need to be worked out.

The banner at the top of the page was created by Trooper's sister-in-law Amber.  I want to publically thank them both for it.
