The Cure for the Feverless

by: Mindy Hess | on: 2007-01-30 00:00:00
So, it's interesting that the latest poll happens to ask what we did while waiting for our beloved Rant Fever to return once again. I spent the last week getting into a little thing called Sudoku.

Now yes this may be a game little better than minesweeper, but a coworker recently introduced me to what I can only describe as Sudoku on crack. Each time I am presented with one of these things, it's as though triumph is forever away. And the second I'm finished, I need another.

So here, try it for yourself:Read more...

Pizza with Pesto Sauce

by: Justin Mills | on: 2007-01-10 00:00:00
From Virginia Postrel's phenomenal book, The Future and Its Enemies:

In the name of consumer protection, the Agriculture Department even dictates the proper way to make pizza. All frozen pizzas must, by law, contain tomato sauce, regardless of what, in context, consumers expect. To market a sausage and herb pizza with pesto sauce, world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck had to throw tomato into the sauce -- hardly the common meaning of "pesto."

Let it be known that I oppose all such absurdity in whatever tyrannical forms it appears.

And they say Global Warming is a myth??

A few weeks ago, a day that I thought would be a simple snow day turned into what the Governor declared a state of emergency. I was fortunate enough to barely make it home before the worst of it hit, and fortune smiled on my little brother as he found himself stranded in front of a hotel with a vacancy. He spent the preceding hours helping stranded freeway motorists push their cars out of ditches, while people around him abandoned their car in droves. It was a site that gave him the distinct feeling that he was about to die because nobody would ever be able to get to him through the mayhem. As for my dad, he was stuck at work, and each member of my family slept in a different location in the city for the next few days.

We came together just in time for Christmas.

And every weekend since, another blizzard!

So, each night I park my car atop three feet of compacted ice, and we’re expected to get an additional 20” this Thursday. WHEN WILL IT END!! And every time I go to the gas pump or the grocery store just after another snow storm enters the forecast, it is complete and total chaos. A true testament to why we’re commanded to keep a years-supply.Read more...

Books Addict

by: Justin Mills | on: 2007-01-06 00:00:00
I have a confession to make. I am addicted to buying books. No matter how many books I have on my coffee table/night stand that I have yet to read, I cannot walk into a bookstore without buying something. Very rarely do I not read one of the books I have purchased, so it's not like I actually waste money, it's just that... the books pile up, y'know?Read more...

More problems on the border

by: Russell Updike | on: 2007-01-05 00:00:00
When I saw this I was furious. I was to the point where I wanted to call for the militarization of the southern border until Mexican government can control it's people. I know it's a stretch, but drastic times call for drastic measures.

Republicans Whine

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2007-01-04 00:00:00
This from the Washington Post online. Rush commented on the same thing today. Now that Republicans are the minority in the House, they are complaining and whining. It is an embarrassment. Republicans have to realize that they lost power. Furthermore, it is their own fault. Now that the Dems are in power, they are running the show the same way that the Republicans ran it.

Stop whining, Republicans, and start working on getting power back.

Meanwhile, the Democrats have no idea what to do in Iraq. Of course, they won on the idea that they would do something, but they've got nothing. I am anxiously awaiting the President's next move over the weekend. Hopefully, we'll get some direction from our "leadership" soon!
