I think I saw an X-files on this...

by: Jennie Martin Howe | on: 2006-11-29 00:00:00
While reading my morning news on Drudge, I came across the headline:

US military trains 'air force' of bomb-sniffing bees

So I go on to read that the air force has found a way to train bees to signal by sticking out their tongues when they come across explosives. They did this by using the reward system. They gave the bees sugar when they did it right.

Someone must have been very patient to train a bunch of bees...and I don't know about you, but I can't tell if a bee is sticking it's tongue out or not.

Kind of Slow

Yep. Kind of slow around here.

I'd be posting a lot more (there's been plenty of stuff to post on), but what with the new job and all I seem less inclined to do much blogging.

(This is not meant to offend in any way)

The US government has a new website, http://www.ready.gov. There are some that may consider it an attempt at scare mongering in the style of the old "duck and cover" advice after WWII, yet I find it helpful. In the event of a terrorist attack, everyone should become familiar with the following images:Read more...

Oh, the potential for rant...

I read this article. and thought to myself, "oh, the hypocrisy!" Next thing you know celebrities will only do movies if there are limits. But honestly I don't care. Volcanoes put off more crap than humans all together.

Midterm Elections

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2006-11-11 00:00:00
I'm not going to write about the near-future of American Politics or make any predictions in the wake of the recent mid-term elections. I did find an interesting article about those very topics at the Guardian and Ann Coulter. Instead, I wonder why Republicans lost the House and the Senate. What is going on here?

Democrats are touting now that America has made a clear statement about how much it loves Democrats and their ideals. I must say that I disagree. I think that Republicans have simply not been conservative enough. They have shifted to the center and the left in an insane appeal to the American people, as if that would enamor us with them. Their spending is reminiscent of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman on her shopping spree. Government grows larger under both parties. Admittedly, it grows less under Republican control, but grow it does. And don't even get me started on all these scandals... not that the Dems don't have their fair share, but c'mon people!

I voted more Libertarian this time around than I ever had before because I know that they care more about smaller, more efficient government than retaining or acquiring political power for personal benefit. I think that these elections show more frustration with the right than support of the left.

The Democrat party must still change in order to survive, I think. Supposedly there are "New Democrats" that are more centrist. Who knows? Only time will tell if they are really more centrist. More importantly, it is time for a massive change in the Republican Party. Truthfully, I don't think it will happen. At least, it won't happen anytime soon. Perhaps it would be better if the Libertarian party would gain some strength to become a serious contender. That would make some of the liberals (Dems and Republicans alike) worry more than a little.

Change is the order of the day.

Representative JD Hayworth

by: Russell Updike | on: 2006-11-02 00:00:00
Being from AZ, I have gotten to know the Arizona delegation over the years. My personal favorite has recently become a national figure. When Murtha called for recalling the troops it was Hayworth who forced the House to vote, showing the true colors of the Dems. Well, he also is spearheading immigration reform. Here is an article about his re-election and some of his beliefs and principles. You can make your own decisions.

My dad forwarded me this website, hosted by the NRA, called givethemback.com. The website shows clips of the NRA's video about the human and constitutional rights violations perpetrated by the New Orleans and Louisiana governments. Make sure you click on the tabs on the left to see all the video clips.
