Trooper Ties the Knot

It's true- I am now Mrs. William Hatton. We married 11 days after meeting at a YSA dance. We were married in the courthouse by some judge with quarter machine rings on Tuesday, August 29th. He leaves for Iraq in 2 months, and will be gone a year. We hope to be sealed in the temple when he returns. My REAL ring is gorgeous. 3/4 tcw!

And I did it all with a shaved head.

After a light discussion with a coworker on the topic of immigration, I was sent this email. I wanted to get the ranters take on what follows:Read more...

Labor Pains

by: Mindy Hess | on: 2006-08-18 00:00:00
I work in an office chock full o’ ladies, four of them pregnant, one with an impending due date. Today, during an all-employee meeting, my supervisor had some very important news to tell us. Just as the words “now brace yourselves” were uttered, I heard a splash. That’s right, the girl’s water broke. People were suddenly in a panic, rushing the poor girl downstairs who had a look of doom on her face, the division manager pacing the floor as he was officially “freaked out.”

Ten minutes later . . . Read more...

Reading Recommendation

Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes.

Has anybody else read this novel? I just finished it, and it was great. It was written in the 50s, and it takes a look at scientific and societal attitudes towards intelligence. Great read.

I saw a bumper sticker today that said:

Montgomery Gentry Loses Cool Points

by: Jennie Martin Howe | on: 2006-08-16 00:00:00
I recently read a news article concerning Troy Lee Gentry of Montgomery Gentry, a country duo that I am fond of.

The article, found on MSN news, accuses Gentry of shooting a tame, caged, black bear with a bow and arrow on his property.

It is said that Gentry paid about $4,650 for the bear, named Cubby. He video taped the killing, which will be used in court to decide wether or not it was "fair."

If Gentry is convicted, he and those involved could face up to five years in federal prison and a $20,000 fine.

It's not nice to shoot tame animals in cages. This guy just lost cool points.

Lamont and Lieberman: Who Cares?

by: Abinadi Ayerdis | on: 2006-08-11 00:00:00
Lamont resently beat Sen. Lieberman in a Democrat primary election race in Conneticut by four percentage points. If you follow conservative talk radio and blogs (as I do), you'll have noticed that this primary has drawn the attention of the nation from both sides of the political spectrum.

Joe Lieberman is a polemic political figure among his fellow democrats due to his support of President Bush on the war on terror. Indeed, Lamont won on an extreme anti-war platform. What has gotten the Left talking was Lieberman's decision to run as an Independent now that he lost the Democrat endorsement. Leading Democrats everywhere are coming out in support of Lamont: the last thing they want is for Lieberman to run and win as an independent.

Interestingly, conservatives in the blogosphere and on talk radio have been backing Lieberman throughout the whole process. It seems strange that they would. Indeed, we conservatives are going through great lengths to explain to Dems how bad Lamont would be for them.

So here is my question: Why do we conservatives care so much about these two liberals? We go on and on about why Lieberman is better for Democrats, but we remain mum about how he is better for the Right. Strange, huh? It isn't like we really want to help the Left, right? Why don't we just let them hang themselves?Read more...

The Da Vinci Code

by: Justin Mills | on: 2006-08-01 00:00:00
The movie and the book sucked. Yeah, I said it.

I could never put into words exactly what was wrong with both the book and the movie. This site did it for me.
